One of the news stories of the year came on Wednesday with the announcement of the end of the professional relationship between Carlos Alcaraz and Juan Carlos Ferrero. The world number one and his coach had been together throughout the Murcian’s professional career, winning 24 titles, six of which are Grand Slam titles

Ferrero had been chosen by his peers as coach of the year alongside Samuel Lopez. Juanqui is the only one to have this recognition twice as he also won it in 2022Samuel will remain as Alcaraz’s coach for the next season and will be the one to accompany him on the tour of the Antipodes

I feel that, if our sporting paths had to separate, it had to be from up there

Carlos Alcaraz

“It’s very difficult for me to write this post… After more than seven years together, Juanki and I have decided to end our time together as coach and player. Thank you for making my childhood dreams come true. We started this journey when I was just a kid, and all this time you have accompanied me on an incredible journey, on and off the court. And I have enjoyed every step with you,” wrote Carlitos on his Instagram account.

“We have managed to reach the top, and I feel that, if our sporting paths had to separate, it should be from up there. From the place we always worked for and always aspired to reach. There are so many memories that come to mind that to stay with just one would not be fair. You have made me grow as a sportsman, but above all as a person. And something that I value very much: I have enjoyed the process. I keep that, with the road travelled together,” said the tennis player.

“Now times of change are coming for both of us, new adventures and new projects. But I am sure that we will face them in the right way, giving our best, as we have always done. Always adding up. I wish you the best from the bottom of my heart in everything that comes. I am left with the peace of mind of knowing that we have not left anything to give, that we have put everything at the disposal of the other. Thank you for everything, Juanki!” the statement concludes.

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there are so many shared experiences behind it

Juan Carlos Ferrero

“Today is a difficult day. One in which it is difficult to find the words. Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there are so many shared experiences behind it. We have worked hard, grown together, and shared unforgettable experiences. I want to thank you for the time, the trust, the learning and, above all, for the people who have surrounded me throughout this journey,” Ferrero writes on his social networks.
