Canelo Alvarez has not spoken about his future after the defeat against Terence Crawford, with which he lost his undisputed championship in the super middleweight division.
With revenge as a remote option, the Mexican fighter does not have a very clear path to follow in his career until 2026, the year in which he is contracted for two fights with Sheikh Turki Alalshikh.
Saul Alvarez is challenged by Mbilli
One of the options mentioned for Saul Alvarez (63-3-2) before he was dethroned at 168 pounds was Frenchman Christian Mbilli and now he raises his hand again against an “old” Canelo.
“It will be a privilege to fight with a big name like Canelo. I would love to fight Canelo. I think Canelo is already very old, he is not the same Canelo of 5 or 10 years ago, but it is normal
Canelo is getting older. It’s a good time to fight him. I don’t know if he will withstand my pressure and my punches. I throw a lot of punches with a lot of energy. I don’t know if he will hold up. I think I have a good chance of winning.
“He been a professional boxer since he was 15 years old but he is still dangerous and a good boxer, he is still in the top three in the division and he is a very good boxer. We’ll see if I get the chance. It will be an important name on my list,” he told The Ring.
Christian Mbilli wants rematch with Lester Martinez
Mbilli (29-0-1) fought on the same card in which Crawford defeated Alvarez on September 13 in Las Vegas and drew by split decision with Lester Martinez (19-0-1).
The Frenchman is the interim super middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council and the organization has already ordered the rematch against the Honduran. There is no date yet for that second fight, but Mbilli must beat Martinez if he wants his big chance against Canelo.
