Canelo Alvarez trains his next world champion for when he retires and maintains his legacy forever

It is true that Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has few fights left in his professional career. However, the Mexican champion hopes that the Alvarez legacy will remain alive for several more decades. As the saying goes, “Like father, like son”. Now, it seems that his young son, Saul Adiel Alvarez, is beginning to show the same steps as his father. This possibility has been made possible by the posting of a short video of the five-year-old after throwing strong punches against the pads held by Canelo himself, which caused many to share their opinions online.

The clip shows Canelo Alvarez’s son in a southpaw stance, facing his father. He starts with a clean uppercut, quickly followed by a left hook, all while showing impressive footwork. He then moves on to a combination of body shots and more uppercuts, repeating the sequence several times. What stood out was the youngster’s ability to execute each punch with proper form and remarkable accuracy. Interestingly, two years ago, in an interview with Sun Sport, Canelo Alvarez had spoken about the possibility of his son entering the boxing world.

Adiel Alvarez follows in the footsteps of his father Canelo

Saul Alvarez grew up watching several of his brothers fight, so it was natural that Canelo would find his vocation in boxing. He reportedly began training at the age of 13 and, over the course of nearly two decades, has reached the pinnacle of the sport, winning titles in four divisions. Now Adiel is in the same position as his father. “He loves boxing. He told me when he is going to fight in Las Vegas and I told him that when he is 18 years old maybe he can fight there, but first he must receive the first blow and then he will tell me if he wants to be a boxer.”

He also made it clear that if his son wants to take the sport seriously, he would have to show true dedication to earn his father’s approval. “He has to love boxing… He has to be able to endure the sacrifice that comes with it,” he added. While the super middleweight champion will return to the ring next month for a Netflix-exclusive showdown against Terence Crawford on September 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, it is his son who is currently stealing the spotlight.

The requirements Canelo demands to be a professional boxer

The Mexican champion emphasized the importance of passion and discipline to succeed in the sport. While these qualities are non-negotiable, he also stressed that talent is just as essential. Even so, going back to the video, fans were deeply impressed. Many are already lining up to praise Adiel, seeing in him the first signs of a potential future world champion. Undoubtedly, Canelo Alvarez is proving to be an inspiring figure for his son, but the youngster will have to work hard if he hopes to reach the heights his father has reached.

For Canelo, technique must constantly be perfected, such as the way to bend the knees to generate power. In the face of these teachings, “Canelito” has been imitating his father’s characteristic style. Fans have begun to look for fights for Canelo Alvarez’s six-year-old son, imagining possible opponents in the future such as against Mayweather’s grandson, KJ “Meezy”, who turned four last January and is already attracting attention. Or David Benavidez’s son, referring to Anthony Benavidez, the 3-year-old son.
