Canelo Alvarez punches Televisa commentator and caused him great pain

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is in full preparation to defend his WBO, WBA, WBC super middleweight title against William Scull, champion of the same category, but of the IBF. With the fight approaching, Carlos Aguilar, analyst and commentator for boxing for Televisa Deportes, recalled what it was like to receive tremendous blows from the Mexican champion.

In an interview with Zar Aguilar with “Escorpion Dorado”, he mentioned that he had a sparring session with Canelo Alvarez, who connected him with a couple of good straights and confessed that he suffered a lot of pain with that pair of rights.

He hits with the knuckle of the index finger in the form of an uppercut on the shoulders. A technique that Canelo started to implement and I really felt pain

Canelo Alvarez has his own punching style

The analyst also mentioned that it is a technique to weaken the opponent’s arm so that he lowers his guard, but in professional boxers the effect is felt until halfway through the fight and for him it was immediate. “It’s the classic ‘sleeper’, the blow comes in and you feel how it cramps you. The day Canelo did it, I felt the pain not in my shoulder: in my crown!” he confessed.

For Carlos Aguilar, sparring sessions with other professional fighters is nothing new. For several years he has had training sessions with figures such as Antonio Margarito, Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera. In the session with Canelo Alvarez, he recommended a series of actions to follow to combat the headache that could be generated at the end of the day by the blows received during that sparring session.

Canelo Alvarez’s next fight

On Saturday, May 3, the current super middleweight champion will fight for the first time in Saudi Arabia in a title unification bout against Cuba’s Williams Scull, in what critics have said could be a watershed fight in the Guadalajara native’s career. It will either cement his status in world boxing or be a prelude to his retirement.

This is because the Caribbean boxer is characterized by “tiring” his opponents. He does not have a technique of deadly punches, nor a spectacular combination of punches. His fighting style is based on endurance and keeping his opponents at a distance. This generates fatigue and, without a doubt, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez’s age could be a factor against him.
