Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez undoubtedly had one of the most difficult years of his career in professional boxing. His first fight in 2025 against William Scull in Saudi Arabia was one of the most questioned of his career and was even accused of being ‘boring’ by many analysts of the sport, especially against an opponent who on many occasions avoided contact and accused the Mexican of ‘not having such a powerful punch’.

However, that same night it was made official that he would face Terence Crawford, who months later would consummate a tremendous victory over the Mexican, leaving him without the undisputed championships in the 168-pound category and with an operation on his right elbow, but there is something in which no boxer could beat him and that is in economic income throughout 2025.

The sports business site Sportico shared information about the athletes who could earn the most money during 2025 from their sports salaries and/or endorsements, leaving Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez in second place behind only Cristiano Ronaldo, a soccer player who currently plays for Al Nassr in the Saudi Arabian League.

For Canelo to be among the highest-earning athletes, it was vital the contract he signed with Turki Alalshikh to have four fights to be held in Saudi Arabia and according to Sportico, the contract was worth approximately $325 million.
