Floyd Mayweather Jr. shook the foundations of boxing and took it to another level, becoming a veritable money-making machine, it’s no wonder his nickname was “Money“.

Not only did he reign supreme in the ring, but he was also a genius at building his empire outside of it, mastering the art of business and self-promotion. He had an impressive undefeated record of 50-0.

He wasn’t just good in the ring, he was a spectacle outside the ring, a very charismatic character who won over millions of fans. You either loved him or hated him, you couldn’t be neutral. Floyd divided opinion.

“Money” took boxing earnings to new heights, starring in fights that marked a before and after, such as his clash with Pacquiao in 2015, which generated more than $600 million, and his media spectacle against McGregor in 2017, which exceeded $550 million. There is no doubt that he has become a money machine.

Some might think that with his retirement, these numbers could go down, but no, on the contrary, Mayweather Jr. has invested his money well, to the point of being on Sportico‘s list of the 50 highest paid athletes of all time.

Canelo will take the “money” label from Floyd

The Mexican boxer signed a four-fight contract with Riyadh Season with Turki Alalshikh, the best deal of his career, as he will earn nearly $ 400 million.

Canelo Alvarez is taking the boxing world by storm. He made $80 million in his last fight and will make another $150 million against Crawford in September. With million-dollar contracts, his own businesses and no plans to retire, he is on track to surpass $1 billion and become the richest boxer in history.

“I’m not thinking about making a certain amount of money and then retiring. No. I’m going to do my thing. And then when I’m 37 or 38, it’s time to retire,” Saul said in an interview with TMZ.

Floyd Mayweather’s $1.5 billion earnings could be forgotten with a few fights by the Guadalajara native. We’ll have to wait and see if the huge contract he signed with Saudi Arabia continues to grow, which seems likely given his big name in the Mexican-American market.
