One of the criticisms of Saul Alvarez on repeated occasions is to stay in his “comfort zone”, to arrange fights with tailor-made opponents and do business without much effort. However, the famous Canelo has revealed the possibility of leaving the super middleweight division to move up in category and go after a fight that could not be completed as the Mexican had wished.
In an interview with The Ring Magazine, Canelo Alvarez stated what challenge he wants to face as soon as possible, but if it materializes he will have to leave the super middleweight division (168 pounds), which he has dominated since 2019 and if he wins against William Scull, he would be the undisputed champion of all organizations.
What challenge would Saul Canelo Alvarez take on again?
For the Mexican champion, he wants to have the rematch against Dmitry Bivol in the light heavyweight division (175 pounds), after remembering that, in their last fight, the Russian took the victory.
“I hope I get the opportunity to have that rematch with Bivol, it’s the only fight at 175 (pounds) that I really want, but we’ll see,” said Saul Alvarez.
Today, Canelo is the face of Mexican boxing worldwide, where he has managed his image to place himself at the top of international pugilism. However, he has a debt to himself.
“I take that defeat as a learning experience, but I want to have the opportunity to prove my superiority in the future. – You need to show that you are a better fighter than him -“, expressed the Mexican champion in a reflection with himself.
Saul Alvarez’s fight against William Scull in Saudi Arabia
Before thinking about Dmitry Bivol, the Mexican must focus on his next commitment as he is just under two weeks away from defending his WBO, WBA and WBC belts to prove that he is the undisputed super middleweight champion when he faces William Scull, who holds the title in the IBF.
This fight will take place in Saudi Arabia at the Riyadh Arena on Saturday, May 3 in what will be his first fight of the year. As has been a tradition in his boxing calendar, the next one will be in September during the Mexican Independence Day celebrations, which this year would be around Saturday, September 13.
