After Jake Paul returned to the spotlight with the announcement of a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and its subsequent cancellation, The Problem Child will face a Mexican, and will meet next Saturday, June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, against Canelo’s former rival and son of a legend: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The YouTuber-turned-boxer, after defeating Mike Tyson in November 2024, was close to agreeing a fight against Canelo Alvarez and even claimed that he had a contract, which later turned out to be a strategy by the Mexican to reach a multi-million dollar agreement with the Arab promoter Turki Alalshikh.
The first of four fights that Canelo will have with Riyadh Season will be against Cuban William Scull on May 3 in Saudi Arabia, and while he is in the final stages of his preparation, he gave an interview to DAZN, where he accepted that he does not rule out getting into the ring against Jake Paul, but downplayed the sporting side, although without saying so, it is clear that what motivates him is the gain, especially after seeing the financial success of the influencer’s previous fight against Mike Tyson.
Canelo’s move with Jake Paul
Instead of committing to a direct confrontation with Paul, Canelo allowed speculation about their possible fight to grow, knowing that this would increase his visibility and, with it, his market value.
“I don’t even call it a fight. For me, it’s an event. But it’s not the time, you have to play your cards right,” declared Canelo on his reflection to have Jake Paul as an option for when he decides to say goodbye to boxing.
Canelo’s focus when entering talks with Jake Paul was on maximizing commercial benefits without losing sight of his legacy as a boxer, so when the showdown is finalized it will be more of a show like the one experienced in November between The Problem Child and Iron Mike
