Canelo Alvarez confirms his next fight against Terence Crawford, but receives an attractive proposal from another boxer

The fight between Canelo Alvarez and William Scull generated numerous reactions from both fans and experts, and the common denominator was that it was too boring.

In the fight there were no surprises and it became more of a “hunt and run” spectacle, after the Cuban Scull dedicated himself to running for the 12 rounds, which allowed the Mexican to easily overcome him in a lackluster challenge, and in which the Mexican regained his status as undisputed champion

One of the “critics” of the fight that took place on Arab soil was Edgar Berlanga, while Turki Alalshikh and his team kept the best for last.

Canelo-Crawford fight confirmed

At the end of the fight, Terence Crawford entered the ring for an expected showdown with the super middleweight king. It was then that the head of the Riyadh season made it official: Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will meet in Las Vegas on September 12.

While most boxing fans already sensed that this matchup was in the works, formal confirmation was lacking, but at the same time, elsewhere on the planet, Berlanga could not help but react and said he wants another shot at Alvarez.

“My God, this damn fight is boring! I need the rematch #caneloberlanga2,” Berlanga posted on his social media, and while some responses were encouraging, most were not so kind to his comments.

One even asked Berlanga to settle unfinished business with his super middleweight peers, Jaime Munguia and Caleb Plant.

Berlanga does have a fight scheduled for July 12 against Britain’s Hamzah Sheeraz, on a card in which the main fight is Shakur Stevenson vs. William Zepeda.

After losing to Canelo last September, Berlanga returned to action with a first-round knockout victory over Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz on the Austin Williams and Patrice Volny undercard.

That dominant performance was followed by a slew of challenges, most notably a profanity-laced challenge directed at Caleb Plant, with whom Berlanga has a long-running feud. At the same time, it revived rumors of a possible rematch with Canelo.

Berlanga demands a rematch against Canelo

Referring once again to the rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico, Berlanga issued a new challenge: “Let’s do the rematch; let’s do the rematch in 2026. Let’s go! You know Puerto Rico and Mexico are the best.”

It is unclear if Canelo received the message from Berlanga, but with the fight confirmed against Crawford for September, the super middleweight king’s schedule is quickly filling up.

Under his four-fight contract with Riyadh Season, Canelo still has two more fights scheduled, probably for 2026.

Two names currently top the list of possible opponents. First, Dmitry Bivol, who dealt Canelo one of his two defeats as a professional; and the other, the most anticipated, David Benavidez.

He was at one point his mandatory challenger, but eventually moved up in weight, while Canelo’s refusal to commit has generated numerous criticism.

In addition, the Mexican fighter is already 35 years old, and a big-money fight against someone like Jake Paul might not be out of the question.
