Canelo Alvarez admits to toying with Jake Paul in negotiations for alleged ‘fight’

In the midst of Canelo‘s negotiations with Riyadh Season, Jake Paul arrived on the scene, always insisting on a fight with the Mexican. This time things were going well, but Turki Alalshikh arrived and offered millions that finally convinced Alvarez to sign with him.

Sources indicate that it would be a $400 million contract for four fights, the first against William Scull in Saudi Arabia, where he will try to establish himself as the undisputed champion. If all goes well, he is expected to fight Terence Crawford in Las Vegas in September.

That would close out his 2025 boxing season, with 2026 still up in the air and clearly depending on his performance. There is a possibility that he could face Bivol in a rematch, but nothing has been confirmed as of today.

Jake Paul is furious

Once it was official, the content creator was very upset and showed a signed non-disclosure agreement, claiming that they already had all the promotion ready. It was definitely a blow to ‘El Gallo’s’ pride.

His future remains uncertain. There was even talk of Gervonta Davis, but those plans fell through after Tank’s draw with Lamont Roach Jr.

“You have to play your cards right”

In an interview with DAZN, Canelo was asked if the fight was really going to happen or not, as it had been a saga on the internet with different types of information coming out this week.

“You have to play your cards right. It wouldn’t be a fight, but it would be an event. It’s not happening for now,” were Canelo‘s emphatic words, making it clear that he was willing to listen to the financial proposal.

However, plans have changed and he is now ready to face William Scull on May 3rd, his first fight outside the United States and Mexico. A new chapter begins, but his focus remains on the top.

“I’m already the undisputed super middleweight champion, so now I’m going to be the undisputed two-time champion. The motivation is to see new countries, fight in new countries and at this stage of my career,” he said.
