Saul “Canelo” Alvarez continues to accumulate critics. Now, the Mexican pugilist adds to his list Rolando “Rolly” Romero, who joined the criticism of the fight of the fighter with William Scull last May.
And the fight that marked the beginning of Canelo’s residency in Saudi Arabia left a bad taste in the mouths of boxing experts and professionals alike.
Rolly Romero, who has faced Ryan Garcia and Isaac Cruz, lashed out at Alvarez, his fight and his $80 million earnings.
It should be noted that Rolly is a professional boxer with 17 wins and two losses in the lightweight category.
What did Rolly Romero say about Canelo Alvarez and his fight with William Scull?
Rolly Romero claimed that the fight between Alvarez and Scull disrespected the sport.
“That fight he had with Scull was so disrespectful. It’s like he didn’t even try to win, brother. He went for a check and it’s disrespectful to boxing, brother,” the American began by saying on Fight Hub TV.
Later, Romero pointed to Alvarez because, from his point of view, he is taking advantage of boxing to pocket impressive amounts of money without thinking about the spectacle.
“He’s just making a profit off boxing, it’s sad to see a great fighter, a legend, out there just trying to make a profit off boxing in any way he can. Honestly, it’s a disgrace to the sport,” Rolly said in the interview.
