Buffalo Bills face red-hot Jaguars: Can Josh Allen break his playoff curse?

The Buffalo Bills are entering the 2026 NFL playoffs with high expectations, boasting a 12-5 record and a roster stacked with offensive firepower.

But as they prepare to travel to Jacksonville for their Wild Card matchup, one glaring postseason statistic looms over their Super Bowl hopes.

Josh Allen has never won a road playoff game in his career.

Analysts and fans believe that breaking that particular streak could be the key to unlocking Buffalo‘s first Lombardi Trophy run in decades.

Allen‘s regular-season excellence is no secret. The four-time Pro Bowl quarterback has been the engine that has driven Buffalo to six straight postseason appearances since 2019 and has thrown 25 passing touchdowns in his 13 career playoff games with just four interceptions.

But the Bills‘ inability to win away from Highmark Stadium in the postseason remains a sticking point, not because Allen has played poorly, but because circumstances have repeatedly conspired against him.

Whether it’s tough matchups or a defense that has struggled to get stops, road playoff success has eluded Buffalo.

Playoff history adds pressure for Allen

In addition to that road record, the Bills have also faced their own nemesis in recent years in the Kansas City Chiefs.

Under Allen‘s leadership, Buffalo has fallen to Patrick Mahomes and company in multiple high-stakes playoff games, including heartbreaking AFC Championship Game losses.

According to historical data, Allen is also one of the few starters to lose multiple playoff games to Mahomes-led Kansas City teams, reinforcing the “curse” narrative that some analysts have floated around Bills fandom.

Independent analyses show that Allen has been one of the more effective quarterbacks in playoff settings when evaluating performance per play, particularly in high-pressure situations.

Yet all those strong individual numbers haven’t translated into the one statistic that matters most to fans, a Super Bowl berth.

The Jacksonville Jaguars finished 13-4 in the regular season and have offensive balance with Trevor Lawrence spreading the ball to emerging playmakers.

Combined with a defense that has consistently ranked near the top of the league in key categories, Jacksonville presents its own set of challenges for the Bills.

If Allen manages to break his unwinning streak, it could change the way the franchise sees itself.

Buffalo has not reached the Super Bowl since 1994, and each postseason trip without a road victory adds another layer to the broader story.

Compounding Buffalo‘s uphill climb is the scrutiny over how the rest of the roster supports Allen when the lights are brightest.

Critics often point to defensive lapses or missed opportunities by skill players as contributing factors in earlier losses, arguing that Allen‘s overall performance is strong even when outcomes aren’t.
