A routine afternoon at the Valspar Championship quickly turned tense when an unexpected incident involving a spectator disrupted play and prompted an immediate response from players and officials. The third round, held at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, was briefly paused after a young girl became involved in an accident near the 15th hole.

The incident occurred as a golf cart carrying fans navigated the course. In a sudden and unfortunate moment, the young spectator came into contact with the moving vehicle and became trapped beneath it.

The scene drew concern from nearby spectators and competitors, who quickly realized that immediate assistance was required. Play was halted as attention shifted away from the competition and toward ensuring the child’s safety.

Among the players on the hole were Brooks Koepka and Danny Walker, both of whom were mid-round when the situation unfolded. Rather than continuing with their play, they stepped away to assess what had happened and to assist in any way possible.

Swift medical response and reassurance

Emergency staff at the tournament responded quickly, working alongside event personnel to safely free the girl from under the cart. Reports indicated that the vehicle was moving slowly at the time, which likely helped limit the severity of the incident. Once she was removed, medical professionals conducted an on-site evaluation to check for injuries.

Fortunately, the girl did not suffer any serious harm. After being assessed, she was able to leave the area with her family without requiring additional medical treatment.

The prompt coordination between bystanders, players, and staff ensured that the situation was handled efficiently and with minimal delay to the event.

Following the conclusion of his round, Koepka shared his thoughts on the incident, expressing concern for the young fan and relief that she was okay.

“She’s OK, thankfully, so that’s all that matters,” the former LIV Golf star said. “I know she’s probably a little scared, and I just felt for her at the time.

“It’s unfortunate, it shouldn’t have happened. But as long as she’s OK – and nothing crazy happened to her – then it will be OK.”

Tournament officials later acknowledged the actions taken by Koepka and Walker, noting that their quick response and willingness to help contributed positively during the incident. They also confirmed that play on the hole was paused for only a short period before resuming once the area was deemed safe.

While such events are generally well-managed, unexpected situations can still arise, highlighting the need for vigilance.
