Break-in attempt at Christian Wood’s home linked to strange pizza order

Police say the suspects involved in a break-in at the rental home of former Lakers big man Christian Wood may have used a fake delivery to scout the residence before entering. According to details contained in a recently obtained search warrant, investigators believe the delivery attempt was part of a strategy to determine whether anyone was inside at the time.

The incident took place on November 5 at roughly 12:30 p.m Wood was renting through Airbnb in Sherman Oaks. A Domino’s delivery worker approached the property with an order listed under Wood’s address. Officers later confirmed Wood had not placed the order and was not expecting a delivery. Reports suggest Wood stayed inside and chose not to answer the door.

Masked suspects enter moments later

After the delivery driver left, three masked individuals reportedly approached the back of the home. Investigators say the suspects shattered a rear sliding glass door to gain entry. The warrant states that Wood, who was in the home during the break-in, immediately went to his bedroom, accessed a firearm and fired three shots. The gunfire prompted the intruders to run from the scene.

No items were taken from the property, and no injuries were reported. Police believe the delivery attempt may have been used as a quick way to confirm whether the home was occupied without drawing suspicion.

Investigators search for whoever placed the order

Weeks after the incident, detectives obtained a warrant to review the pizza order and the number used to place it. An employee at the Domino’s location told investigators that an order had indeed been submitted for Wood’s address shortly before noon of the day of the break-in.

Roughly 30 minutes later, the restaurant received a phone call from a number asking whether the delivery had been made. The caller was told an attempt had been made but no one answered the door. Police later attempted to trace that number, but documents show the search produced no usable leads.

Investigators have not publicly identified any suspects. The individuals seen entering the property remain at large.

Following the break-in, Wood has remained largely out of the public spotlight. He has not appeared in an NBA game since the 2023-24 season, spending much of that year recovering from injury. The Lakers waived wood in February, and he has been a free agent since. Nothing in the warrant suggests that wood himself was targeted for any reason other than being the occupant at the time.

For no, police continue to investigate the attempted break-in while also working to identify who placed the suspicious delivery order.
