The press conference ahead of the fight between Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz at the Ring III event turned into chaos as the Puerto Rican boxer had promised. Tension was in the air when Oscar de la Hoya confirmed that he would accompany William Zepeda, who will also fight at the event against Shakur Stevenson.
The origin of this controversial incident was in 2024 when the former Mexican boxer spoke about Berlanga’s lack of level to face Canelo Alvarez and questioned his roots saying that he was 100% American, which did not seem to Edgar and threatened to “give him a beating” when they met.
What was Berlanga’s reaction to having De La Hoya close by?
The incident began when Berlanga threw a wig and lingerie at the founder of Golden Boy Promotions, followed by money and phrases such as: “You’re my stripper,” “F*** you” and “You couldn’t even hit me”. All this because in 2007 photos were leaked of Oscar de la Hoya dressed in women’s clothing, in this situation the security of the place had to intervene and thus avoid something bigger.
However, De La Hoya did not remain silent, responding to Berlanga’s comments with laughter and phrases such as: “I’m more Puerto Rican than you”, “your jewelry is as fake as your victories” and “After you win a title talk to me”. Fortunately there were no physical aggressions and it was all left in strong statements from both, who have shown not to tolerate each other.

Edgar Berlanga also came face to face with his opponent on Saturday and true to his provocative style, he played the trailer of Jurassic Park in order to silence his rival, as if downplaying him and interrupting him when he had the microphone.
