Bam Adebayo scores incredible 83 points as Miami Heat star takes Kobe Bryant’s unbeatable record

In a performance that instantly entered the record books, Bam Adebayo delivered one of the most remarkable scoring displays in modern basketball history, erupting for 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a dominant 150-129 victory over the Washington Wizards. The historic outing now stands as the highest-scoring NBA game since Kobe Bryant‘s legendary 81-point explosion for the Los Angeles Lakers in 2006.

It also represents the most points scored in a single game since Wilt Chamberlain‘s iconic 100-point performance for the Philadelphia Warriors on March 3, 1962.

For Adebayo, the night was not only about raw scoring but also efficiency and relentless aggression.

The Heat star finished 20-of-43 from the field, 7-of-22 from beyond the arc and an astounding 36-of-43 from the free-throw line.

According to ESPN, the performance placed Adebayo alongside Chamberlain as the only players in NBA history to record at least 20 made field goals and 25 free throws in a single game.

A historic night from start to finish

The tone for the historic performance was set early. Adebayo erupted for 31 points in the first quarter alone, immediately putting the Wizards defense under immense pressure.

That opening burst became the highest-scoring first quarter by any player in Heat franchise history.

The previous mark had been held by LeBron James, who scored 25 points in a quarter during a 2014 game against the Charlotte Bobcats, now known as the Charlotte Hornets.

By halftime, Adebayo had already compiled a staggering 43 points on 13-of-24 shooting. His first-half stat line also included five rebounds, two steals and a block while helping Miami build a 76-62 lead.

The scoring continued across all four quarters. Adebayo recorded 31 points in the first period, added 12 in the second, poured in 19 during the third quarter and finished with 21 in the fourth to reach the historic 83-point mark.

Along the way, the Heat center also shattered a long-standing free-throw record previously shared by Wilt Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley.

Both players had once made 28 free throws in a single game, but Adebayo surpassed that number with 36 conversions from the charity stripe.

The offensive outburst overshadowed several other notable performances in Miami history.

In addition to surpassing James‘ quarter scoring record, Adebayo also moved past the previous franchise high of 61 points set by James during that same 2014 matchup with the Bobcats.

Other notable Heat scoring bursts in a single quarter had come from players like Kyle Lowry and Tyler Johnson, both of whom previously recorded 22-point quarters for the franchise.

Adebayo, the cornerstone of the Heat

Beyond the historical significance, the performance was another reminder of Adebayo‘s importance to the Heat organization.

The 28-year-old center has been a cornerstone of the team since being selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft out of Kentucky.

In July 2024, Adebayo further cemented his future with the franchise by signing a three-year, $161.35 million maximum contract extension with the Miami Heat, a deal that includes a player option for the 2028-29 season.

Through the 2025-26 regular season, Adebayo had already been performing at a high level, averaging 18.9 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. But Tuesday night’s historic performance elevated his reputation even further.

By surpassing Bryant‘s long-standing modern scoring benchmark and delivering the most explosive scoring night in the NBA in nearly two decades, Adebayo secured his place in basketball history.
