Bam Adebayo praises Aces’ A’ja Wilson after winning MVP: “Special moment for a special person”

After an incredible season with the Las Vegas Aces, A’ja Wilson became the only player in WNBA history to win her fourth MVP award.

With 16 consecutive wins during the regular season and still fighting for a spot in the WNBA Playoff Finals, her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo, had nothing but words of admiration for the 29-year-old center.

Wilson, on “Mount Everest”

During this season, although her numbers were down from 2024, A’ja averaged 23.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals, and 2.3 blocks per game, with a 50.5% field goal percentage. After winning MVP in 2020, 2022, and 2024, Wilson repeated the feat this year and rewrote her name in the WNBA history books.

The moment she received the trophy was particularly emotional, as the person holding the award was the star center of the Miami Heat, with whom she has been romantically linked since 2024.

Recalling this moment, when asked at a press conference, Bam did not hesitate to show his admiration for Wilson:

“Special moment for a special person. To see somebody be the Mount Everest, the Mount Rushmore in their sport is something that you can’t take for granted,” said Bam, adding: “Being able to give somebody flowers when they’re still here to smell them, that was a special moment for me and obviously everybody involved.“

These statements come after the seven-time All-Star Game player said that Adebayo helped her perfect her game: “I’m better this year because I had a front-row seat to one of the best in the game,” Wilson said. “His footwork is such an underrated part of his skill set.”

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Sept 30, A’ja and the Aces will face the Indiana Fever in Game 5 of the Playoff Semifinals at Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas. The winning team will advance to the Finals and face the Phoenix Mercury in a best-of-seven series.
