A clash with Camavinga in an aerial challenge caused Asencio to leave the pitch on a stretcher and with a neck brace in the final stretch of the match against Benfica. Alvaro Arbeloa, after the match, sent a reassuring message about Asencio’s health. “It’s something with his neck, it doesn’t seem serious,” said the Real Madrid coach.

Later, it was the player himself who took to social media to explain that he was fine and also to celebrate that Real Madrid had qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League. “Thank you for all the messages of encouragement! Tense moments on the pitch
Asensio was treated on the pitch at the Bernabeu by Real Madrid’s medical staff for more than five minutes after colliding with his teammate Camavinga and then had to leave the pitch on a stretcher
The two Real Madrid players collided in the air and the centre-back fell off balance to the turf. Asensio’s place on the pitch was taken by Austrian David Alaba.
