Anthony Joshua’s trainer makes damaging claim for Jake Paul fight potential

The boxing world isn’t particularly anxious to hear what Jake Paul has to say, but the YouTuber-turned-fighter sure knows how to keep his name in the spotlight. Following his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Paul called out several high-profile fighters in a wide range of weight classes. None of them seemed to make any sense.

Yet despite no one believing any of them would actually happen, steam has picked up for a potential bout against Anthony Joshua. Yes, the former world heavyweight champion is considered a real possibility for Paul. Even Joshua’s own promoter, Eddie Hearn, has spoken about the fight possibly happening. But now it’s not looking as plausible as it once did.

Ben Davison doesn’t think Anthony Joshua vs. Jake Paul will happen

Joshua’s trainer, Ben Davison, recently spoke about the potential fight between the two. While Davison understands why it could happen, he doesn’t actually think it will come to fruition.

I said the other day, do you remember when Floyd boxed McGregor? He was like, ‘I’m robbing a bank’. I think he came out in a ski mask. If they’re going to pay [Joshua] ridiculous money to do that, then it’s going to spike a bit of interest. We’ll see what they’re willing to do. Do I think it will happen? Probably not.

Davison likens Joshua fighting Paul to Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting Conor McGregor. The boxer and UFC star faced each other for Mayweather’s 50th and final boxing bout. Mayweather ended up winning by TKO, despite a valiant effort from McGregor.

In the end, it was really just a cash grab, as Mayweather could have gone much harder if he felt in danger at any point. There’s no doubt that Joshua could knock out Paul, given the experience and size difference. The question is whether the contract would even allow it.
