While Anthony Joshua recovers from the car accident in Nigeria, investigations into the incident reveal that the driver of the vehicle in which he was traveling was operating with a fake driver’s license.

The Ogun State Police Command announced that Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, was arraigned at the Sagamu Magistrate’s Court in Nigeria. He is accused of causing the death of the boxer’s two trainers. As investigations continue, the case has been adjourned until January 20.

According to police reports, in addition to the homicide, Adeniyi is being charged with the following offenses: dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Joshua, former world heavyweight champion and Olympic gold medallist, was released late on Wednesday evening and will continue his recovery from home. He is also mourning the loss of his collaborators.

The duel for Anthony Joshua

The boxer’s fitness and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, and his trainer, Latif Ayodele, died in the tragedy. Joshua and they were very close, having cemented a friendship between the three of them.

Joshua was sitting in the back seat when the car he was traveling in crashed into a truck stopped on a busy highway in Nigeria. After the impact, his collaborators and friends perished.

In addition to focusing on his physical recovery, the boxer will have to work on the mental and emotional aspect, because the process of loss is just beginning. It has been two days since he left the hospital, so the return to his regular activities within the sports agenda and his daily activities that he carried out with Ghami and Ayodele will be hard for him.

The detail that saved Joshua from dying

The journey began in Lagos and, at first, Anthony sat in the front seat, but the driver asked him to change seats. He did so because Anthony is a big guy and he couldn’t see well in the rearview mirror, so he asked him to move and sat behind the driver

Abogado Olalekan Abiodun a Daily Mail

Lawyer Olalekan Abiodun told the Daily Mail that before getting into the vehicle, Latif and Joshua swapped seats so that the boxer would be more comfortable because of his height. That last-minute and seemingly inconsequential decision was crucial to Anthony staying alive.
