Anthony Joshua to Jake Paul: “I come from a good family… but if I can kill you, I will kill you”

This Friday, Jake Paul and Anthony Joshua will face each other in Miami. The fight has attracted attention because this time ‘The Problem Child’ Paul seems to have embarked on a suicide mission. The American boxer and YouTuber goes from almost nothing to everything, that is, from facing rivals who had little to offer at a sporting level, to measuring himself against one of the best heavyweight champions of recent years, who is still active.

Many voices have been raised calling for the fighter, also known as ‘The Problem Child’, to cancel this fight. In any case, both fighters are already in Miami and all the events related to the fight are going on normally, starting with the public training session.

Such is the superiority that experts believe Joshua has, that he was asked if his intention is to ‘carry’ Paul through the eight rounds of the fight. In short, will he avoid hurting his opponent too much so that he can finish the fight? Will he be lenient? “Nothing about me will be,” the Briton said in a serious tone, adding: “You know what? Today I was looking at myself: I’m a very respectful guy, raised in a good family, but if I can kill you, I’ll kill you. That’s the way I am, and this is my job. So, let’s go.”

As long as people are talking about the fight, I think we’re doing a good job

AJ also rejected that this fight was a farce, as some, such as Deontay Wilder, have suggested. The London Olympic champion commented that the marketing of this fight is working wonders: “That’s the aim of this fight. It generates debates, barbershop conversations, taxi conversations or on the plane, and that’s what we want. The more people talk about the fight, no matter what it’s about, it’s a great advantage. So, on my part, I’m not too sure, I don’t care what people think about integrity. I’m more concerned that they’re talking, and as long as they are, I think we’re doing a good job. They’re definitely talking.”

The former heavyweight champion insists he will not speculate in this fight, as he did not in the crossover against Francis Ngannou, who had just given Tyson Fury a huge scare. “I carry boxing on my shoulders, I did it with the fight against Francis Ngannou and I will do it again. I understand the expectations, I don’t carry them because I already have enough, but I understand them, I recognize them and I respect them.”
