Anthony Edwards surpasses Kobe Bryant and closes in on Michael Jordan in a historic NBA record

Sometimes change can be a very good thing, even when emotional attachments make the past seem better. Movement, however, brings new energy and passions that ignite and intensify when viewed from a different perspective.

This comes into focus because Anthony Edwards had been seen as someone comfortable, even as a player who had lost his hunger and passion for the sport. In Georgia, he delivered strong performances, and later it was said that he had become distracted.

Now, however, he has returned to form and made it clear that none of those claims were true. Perhaps he simply needed a jolt, and that has been the case with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he has become the franchise star they expect him to be.

A memorable performance by Anthony Edwards

This past Tuesday night, March 3, 2026, the Timberwolves faced the Memphis Grizzlies, whom they ultimately defeated 117-110 behind a superb performance from Anthony Edwards.

  • 13 points in the final quarter
  • 41 points overall
  • 15-29 shooting
  • 7-13 from beyond the arc

With the points scored against Memphis, Edwards became the player under 25 years old with the most 40-point games or more, surpassing Kobe Bryant. He now ranks second in that category and is chasing Michael Jordan, who holds the top spot.

This only reflects how dominant Anthony has become and how closely he is following in the footsteps of two NBA legends. Although he remains far from matching the achievements of those iconic stars, he is clearly on the right path.

For now, he must continue at this pace to keep reaching milestones that bring him closer to the unique figures in NBA history. For example, leading his quintet into the postseason and potentially guiding them to the Finals.

The objectives of the Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves aim to reach the postseason for a third consecutive year in the highly competitive Western Conference. That appears possible as long as their star continues to perform at an elite level.

At the moment, the Minnesota Timberwolves sit fourth in the West and are pursuing the third spot held by the Houston Rockets, who have just one more victory than they do.

Gradually, they continue improving and tightening every bolt to ensure the team does not lose momentum. On the contrary, they seek to achieve additional milestones, both collectively and individually, for Anthony Edwards.

From this point forward, the road will become more complicated because every franchise will be fighting for wins that secure a better position heading into the postseason.

The Timberwolves’ upcoming games are:

  • Toronto Raptors, Thursday, March 5
  • Orlando Magic, Saturday, March 7
  • Los Angeles Lakers, Tuesday, March 10
