Another shot from Bill Belichick at Tom Brady: the problems between two legendary NFL figures and the Patriots are far from over

There is no doubt that their era with the New England Patriots is one of the most successful in NFL history. It all began in 2000, when Belichick arrived as head coach, and one year later Brady was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. In 2001, after Drew Bledsoe’s injury, the former Michigan quarterback took over the starting role, sparking a dynasty built on discipline and consistency that will likely be remembered as one of the greatest ever.

They quickly won three Super Bowls, and although several years passed without titles, the team remained consistently competitive. In 2007, the Patriots completed a perfect regular season (16-0) but lost the Super Bowl to Eli Manning’s New York Giants. Still, Belichick and Brady regained dominance between 2014 and 2018, winning three more championships, including the historic comeback against the Atlanta Falcons.

Everything eventually comes to an end, and after the 2019 season-when the Patriots were eliminated by the Tennessee Titans-Tom Brady left the team. The quarterback joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won another Super Bowl in 2021, while Belichick has not won another championship since, fueling the debate over who was more responsible for the dynasty’s success. To this day, it is widely believed that their relationship did not end on good terms.

Bill Belichick emerges as a candidate to coach the Baltimore Ravens

The latest news is the dismissal of John Harbaugh as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens after 18 seasons, during which he won one Super Bowl. The move came after the Ravens were eliminated by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the final week of the season, following a missed field goal by Tyler Loop that prevented Baltimore from winning the AFC North for a third straight year.

As a result, the Ravens are now considered one of the most attractive head coaching openings for the 2026 season, largely because of Lamar Jackson. Opportunities like this are rare: a team with a 28-year-old quarterback who is a two-time NFL MVP and came close to winning the award for a third time in 2024.

One of the names frequently mentioned by fans on social media is Bill Belichick. The legendary coach previously admitted that passing on Lamar Jackson in the 2018 Draft was a mistake, a statement that caused controversy since Tom Brady was still leading the Patriots at the time.

Now, all eyes will be on what happens next in Baltimore, as interviews are set to begin. Belichick is currently working in the NCAA with the University of North Carolina, but the chance to coach Lamar Jackson could be a very attractive opportunity for the successful NFL head coach and future Hall of Famer.
