Not everything can go perfectly in a baseball game. The New York Mets have the best record in MLB with 44 wins and 24 losses. However, in their last game against the Washington Nationals, infielder Kodai Senga was injured due to a bad throw by Pete Alonso. The Metropolitans’ manager, Carlos Mendoza, does not want to blame anyone for this incident.

Kodai Senga left the game while covering first base after a grounder to Alonso, who threw toward first base but his throw was high, causing Senga to stretch and land awkwardly on the bag. He immediately injured his hamstring before falling to the field.

Pete Alonso’s problems throughout the season

Alonso has had problems with his throws to first base in similar plays this season, so many blamed him for the injury. After the game, Mendoza stopped that conversation. The Mets manager claimed that Senga sent his translator to tell Alonso that he felt something in the hamstring before jumping to catch his stray shot.

Even a section of New York Mets fans has called for Pete Alonso to be traded so that he receives a real wake-up call and stops putting games at risk as well as the physical integrity of his teammates. After the game, Alonso admitted that he felt terrible about how the play turned out. “I feel terrible… I tried to make the best throw possible, and it’s a mess. I wish it hadn’t turned out that way”.

Kodai Senga placed on injured list

Carlos Mendoza confirmed that Senga will go on the injured list due to the hamstring injury, but they will not know the severity until an MRI is done. These studies will be carried out in the next few hours and in a period of no more than 24 hours the extent of his injury will be known. Therefore, over the weekend, Pete Alonso will know how “bad” his throw to first base was.
