The Chicago Sky knew they struck gold when Angel Reese fell to them at the 7th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Reese came into the league with offensive skill concerns, but she has continued her collegiate success with two straight WNBA All-Star nods to begin her professional career.
Unfortunately, that hasn’t translated to wins for the Sky. Over the past two seasons, Chicago has won just 23 games out of 84 total contests. Reese wants to turn the franchise’s fortunes around, but she needs help from her teammates and head coach Tyler Marsh, who’s heading into his second season with the team.
Given that it’s Marsh’s first-ever head coaching gig, he needs to surround himself with a solid supporting coaching staff. He appeared to do that last year, but for 2026, he’s losing one of his top assistants to college basketball.
Tanisha Wright leaves Chicago Sky for Penn State head coach job
Tanisha Wright, a former WNBA Champion as a player and AP Coach of the Year with the Atlanta Dream in 2022, is leaving her role as an assistant in Chicago to take the head coach position at Penn State. Wright went to school at Penn State, so it’s a dream come true for her.
Wright’s loss will be felt by Reese and the team, as the players were getting valuable information and development from a former player on the staff. Reese still has Courtney Paris, Rena Wakama and Latricia Trammell to rely on on the coaching staff. But expect the Sky to hire another assistant, perhaps someone with close ties to the players on the roster.
