During the player moves for the start of the 2025 MLB season, one that caught the eye was the acquisition of Juan Soto by the New York Mets to join the New York Yankees, the crosstown rival. In a press conference, the player spoke of his former team with a considerable dose of respect.

New York Mets holds its Spring Training at Clover Park Port St. Lucie, in Florida, and as expected the arrival of Juan Soto on the scene drew attention. His signing is considered one of the most lucrative in Major League Baseball. Nobody expected him to leave the New York Yankees to go with the city’s rival after a tremendously successful season.

What were the points that Juan Soto highlighted about New York and its teams?

In a talk with the media, it was inevitable to question this move and how he felt now that he wears the jersey, although in the same city of New York.“It’s a different environment. There are so many eyes because everyone wants to come in and beat the New York teams. It was really sensational what I experienced at the Yankees and surely it will be the same with the Mets, it’s unique.”

These words referred to his life in the Big Apple. However, he left the feeling that he still remembers his time in the Bronx. He also expressed his confidence in the current New York Mets and the long-term prospects of the franchise. He is fully confident in the offensive and defensive ability to reach the World Series.

“It takes a full team to get to the end. If you look at the teams that win the World Series, they’re teams that have experience, youth. So I think it takes more than one player, and when you look at the Mets and their roster, I think we have a chance to be competitive for a long time.”Juan Soto is a 26-year-old native of the Dominican Republic who is preparing to play in his ninth MLB season after playing for the Washington Nationals from 2018 to 2022, the San Diego Padres from 2022 to 2023, his brief stint with the New York Yankees last year and his move across town to the Mets for this campaign.
