Olympia Ohanian is still years away from professional sports, but her aspirations are already being shaped as the daughter of the tennis legend Serena Williams and the Reddit founder Alexis has found inspiration in none other than Tiger Woods. But how?
The seven-year-old has an avid love for golf, which only continues to grow through encouragement from her family as she finds herself supported every step of the way by her parents, who have made her passion part of their own lives.
Now that takes on a new approach with the impact of Woods, the sport’s greatest ever player, who gifts her a set of highly valued clubs in a bid to take her to the next level on the green.
It’s ensured family outings have taken on a new rhythm for the Ohanian-Williams household, as the kid’s father takes on the role of “Daddy Caddy” in his bid to help foster Olympia‘s talents.
Even Serena recently joined the pair for a round, thus proving just how involved the whole family is when it comes to helping the youngster begin her potential journey to the Ladies Professional Golfers Association.
“Golf’s been interesting,” Ohanian explained, before they headed to the course on May 11. “Since Uncle Tiger gifted me some clubs for [my daughter] Olympia. She’s been playing.
“She totally whiffed on a ball, and once she got so upset, she pulled the club up and was about to smash it. I was like, ‘Olympia…’ and she just casually put it down. I was like, ‘Oh, you got that Serena [Williams] in you.'”
Williams and Ohanian back LA Golf Club
The family’s involvement with golf goes beyond the course. In 2023, Williams and Ohanian invested in the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), a team in the new TGL league, offering Olympia an exclusive location to practise.
But their vision is broader than family bonding as Ohanian also pushed for gender representation in the league, continuing his quest for female empowerment across professional sports.
“My wife Serena [Williams] and I have enjoyed as Olympia’s taken a liking to golf,” Ohanian said. “So I’m proud to announce that they’re both owners in this club as well – as is the little one [Adira]!
“Part of my pitch for why I wanted to be the first owner in the league was because I wanted a women’s team.”
So as mother and father unite their shared values to help Olympia create her own sporting legacy, the couple’s commitment to supporting their daughter’s passion offers a modern example of good parenting.
Whether Olympia will eventually mix it up with Nelly Korda, the current world number one, in around 15 years’ time remains to be seen; but she has all of the tools on hand to chase that dream.
