Alex Bregman ignores Astros’ offer, which is not enough to keep third baseman

With the start of Spring Training, third baseman Alex Bregman is still undecided on his future, and is the only free agent yet to find a team on the list of the most sought-after players in the MLB offseason.

Bregman rejected an offer from the Houston Astros for six years and $156 million, although his aspiration is a seven-year, $189 million contract, but a new refusal could still be confirmed that would put the two-time All-Star on the way to a new team.

For now, the Astros remain interested in a possible return, but according to Buster Olney of ESPN, Bregman could be leaning towards a change and has three options where he could fit in.

“Alex Bregman, who will likely land soon with the Red Sox, Cubs and Tigers, sources in the Astros are skeptical that he will return to Houston,” said Buster Olney.

Ideal destinations for Alex Bregman

The Chicago Cubs became the first Major League Baseball team to open spring training in preparation for Opening Day against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Tokyo on March 18 and 19, and they still have yet to cover third base, where Alex Bregman could fit in

A Bregman–Cubs partnership makes sense, as Chicago fans are craving a team that succeeds in the postseason after four consecutive seasons without October baseball, and Jed Hoyer, the Cubs president of baseball operations, is not closing the door and is focused on not ruling out any possible signings.

In addition to the Chicago Cubs, the Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers also profile as teams that could make good use of Alex Bregman’s talent, with Fenway Park an ideal ballpark for his style of play and to anchor the lineup.
