Aiyuk rumors with the 49ers dissipate, according to NFL insider

Last season, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk found himself at odds with the San Francisco 49ers. Dissatisfied with his contract situation, Aiyuk was looking for a new deal-one that better reflected his value on the field. At the time, the Niners weren’t ready to meet his demands, prompting the organization to give him permission to explore trade opportunities with other teams that might offer him the compensation he was seeking.

By mid-2024, trade rumors surrounding Aiyuk were intensifying, and it seemed more likely than not that he would be leaving the Bay Area. But in a surprising and ultimately positive turn of events, the situation was resolved to the satisfaction of both sides.

San Francisco offered Aiyuk a lucrative four-year contract extension worth a substantial $120 million. With that, both the player and the franchise appeared to be back on solid ground. All that remained was for Aiyuk to validate that investment once the new season kicked off.

A Devastating Setback at Midseason

The 2024 campaign began with high expectations, and everything seemed to be clicking for Aiyuk-until disaster struck in Week 7. The wide receiver sustained a major injury that would bring his promising season to a sudden and painful halt.

The diagnosis was grim: a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus. His season was over.

Before the injury, Aiyuk had logged 25 receptions for 374 yards, and while his form hinted at another productive year, the injury threw his future into uncertainty. Looking ahead to 2025, his availability remains a question mark.

The 49ers, now without star receiver Deebo Samuel-who was traded to the Washington Commanders-are clearly counting on Aiyuk to step into an even bigger role. But for now, the waiting game continues.

Aiyuk Responds to Trade Talk with Humor and Grit

In the midst of uncertainty and widespread speculation about his future, Aiyuk chose a lighthearted and ironic tone to address the noise. Responding to rumors about his situation in San Francisco, he offered a tongue-in-cheek remark:

Off perocets/muscle relaxers and peeing in a cup.

Meanwhile, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo weighed in on the controversy, offering a reassuring perspective on Aiyuk’s standing with the team:

Now, I know folks are reading into Brandon Aiyuk’s comments as he makes his way back from an ACL injury… My understanding is Brandon Aiyuk is in a really good space with the team.

If Aiyuk isn’t ready by Week 1, quarterback Brock Purdy will have to rely on the depth chart’s remaining weapons-Jauan Jennings, Ricky Pearsall, Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Watkins, and of course, tight end George Kittle-all of whom have proven to be reliable options.

The Niners are betting big on Aiyuk’s recovery, but whether he can return to top form remains to be seen. What is clear, however, is that he’s eager to remind everyone why he earned that contract in the first place.
