The Miami Dolphins have not made a definitive move at quarterback this offseason, but the speculation surrounding Tua Tagovailoa has only grown louder.
While no trade has materialized, ESPN insider Adam Schefter introduced a scenario this week that added fuel to the rumor mill.
Speaking during an appearance on ESPN Milwaukee, Schefter suggested that if Tagovailoa were to seek a reset, the Green Bay Packers could represent an intriguing destination.
“If I were a guy like Kyler Murray or Tua Tagovailola, Green Bay would be appealing to me,” Schefter said. “Like, you’re with a good organization and a good system with good talented players. You take a year to kind of reset yourself and decompress and learn and see things from a different perspective.
“There are worse places to wind up than Green Bay for one of those guys. Again, I’m sure those guys are gonna want to play and start, and that’s not the case in Green Bay. But if they can’t get that opportunity, then you would think a place like Green Bay would be very attractive to a lot these guys.”
Schefter‘s comments did not indicate an active negotiation between Miami and Green Bay. Instead, they framed the Packers as a potential environment that could benefit a quarterback navigating uncertainty.
He also referenced Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray as another player who might view Green Bay as a stabilizing landing spot.
Tagovailoa’s future
Tagovailoa‘s standing in Miami remains unsettled after a difficult 2025 campaign. The Dolphins finished 7-10, placing third in the AFC East and missing the postseason. Tagovailoa appeared in 14 games, throwing for 2,660 yards and 20 touchdowns but also recording 15 interceptions and absorbing 30 sacks. He was benched for the final three games of the season.
His durability continues to be a focal point. Over six seasons with the Dolphins, Tagovailoa has suffered multiple concussions, raising ongoing concerns about long-term health and availability.
Those performance and injury factors have fueled questions about whether Miami will continue to build around him as QB1 or explore alternatives. No official change has been announced, but the conversation persists.
The Packers, valued at $6.5 billion according to Forbes, represent one of the NFL’s most stable franchises. Schefter‘s framing suggests that stability, along with a structured system and talented roster, could appeal to quarterbacks seeking to recalibrate their careers.
