Jordan Rodgers, brother of Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, has publicly endorsed former Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson as a prime candidate for the New York Jets‘ long-term quarterback position. Simpson, projected as the second-best signal caller in this year’s draft, is widely regarded as a first-round prospect.
The Jets, holding two first-round picks in the 2026 NFL Draft, are in search of a franchise quarterback.
On ESPN’s “Get UP,” Jordan Rodgers labeled Simpson as an “elite quarterback” and broke down several of his plays, praising his skill and vision on the field.
He further emphasized his point on social media, tweeting that the Jets would be “crazy” to pass on Simpson twice in the top 16 picks.
“If the Jets pass on him TWICE in the top 16 they are crazy. Someone is gonna get their future franchise QB. Kid is a baller,” Jordan Rodgers wrote.
Jets’ quarterback room in transition
Last season, the New York Jets signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal as the starting quarterback.
Fields struggled in nine games, throwing for 1,259 yards and seven touchdowns before being replaced by Tyrod Taylor. Following a 3-14 campaign, Jets owner Woody Johnson openly criticized Fields, and the team traded him to the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month.
The Jets have since added Geno Smith to the quarterback room and retain depth options in Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook.
However, none have approached the legendary level of retired quarterback Joe Namath, who led the Jets from 1965 to 1976 and delivered the franchise’s only Lombardi Trophy in Super Bowl III.
Ty Simpson’s thoughts on playing in New York
Ty Simpson recently met with the Jets at the NFL Scouting Combine, sharing his impressions of the team’s coaches and front office.
He spoke positively about Head Coach Aaron Glenn, General Manager Darren Mougey, and the opportunities to learn and contribute.
“It was great, just talking ball, getting to know each other. Coach Reich is a great great human being. Coach Glenn is a super juiceful guy. Installing some stuff (plays) and getting to know each other and getting on the (white) board is what I like. I really love the Jets,” Simpson said.
“Really blessed the opportunity to be able to have a meeting with them. If I have an opportunity to play in New York, they are going to get the best Ty Simpson they can get.”
With Jordan Rodgers‘s strong endorsement and Simpson’s positive reception of the Jets, it appears the team is seriously considering the talented quarterback as a cornerstone for their future.
