A leak revealed what Shedeur Sanders said in the Cleveland Browns’ locker room before earning his first NFL victory

Week 12 of the 2025 NFL season will be remembered for Shedeur Sanders’ first win as an NFL starting quarterback. The former Colorado Buffaloes star led the Cleveland Browns to a 24-10 road victory over the Las Vegas Raiders, delivering an effective performance and making plays we have not yet seen from Dillon Gabriel, his main competition.

It’s worth remembering that Shedeur Sanders’ path in the NFL has been anything but easy, and he’s only just getting started. The Browns quarterback was selected in the fifth round of the Draft despite being projected as a first-round pick. For one reason or another, that didn’t happen. On top of that, he arrived on a team that already had three quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart.

Sanders entered training camp as the Browns’ fourth option, behind Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted in the third round. So for Sanders to finally get the opportunity to start, he had to overcome a series of obstacles-and without a doubt, he seized his moment.

Shedeur Sanders is a firm believer in God

Sanders is undoubtedly a polarizing figure, especially because he’s the son of NFL legend and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders. Since his birth in 2022 in Tyler, Texas, Shedeur has lived under the spotlight, surrounded by fame and expectations. But there’s one thing he never strays from: his faith in God. The Browns quarterback has spoken publicly about his beliefs on numerous occasions.

After his first NFL win as a starter, Sanders revealed that there had been conversations about God in the locker room before the game: “It was great. Two days ago we all had a big conversation in the locker room just about God and, you know, our purpose. And I’m just thankful. This ain’t me, this ain’t nothing but God’s work,” Sanders said.

He was also asked how he managed to push through everything he has faced-being a fifth-round pick, climbing the depth chart, and ultimately leading the Browns to a win over the Raiders. He credited his faith: “God’s the only way I made it through it… You gotta lean on Him, you gotta count on Him throughout everything.”

For now, Shedeur Sanders did his job. He won the game after only one week of practice with the first team. And although he made some mistakes, he also delivered explosive plays that were crucial to the victory: a 50-plus-yard pass to Isaiah Bond and a 66-yard connection to Dylan Sampson that resulted in a touchdown. The Browns’ next game is at home against the 49ers, and it is still uncertain whether Sanders will remain the starter.
