Zion Williamson’s season-long ordeal is not over. Although his physical problems reduced his output to 30 games and his definitive absence took place months ago, the New Orleans Pelicans colossus has other, more serious games to play.
Zion has been accused of rape and physical abuse by a woman who later identified herself as an ex-girlfriend of the New Orleans player, according to the Daily Mail. The victim also alleges a sustained pattern of abusive, controlling and threatening behavior throughout their relationship.
According to the lawsuit, the ex-girlfriend alleges that Williamson‘s abuse was of a sexual, physical, emotional and economic nature. She claims that on multiple occasions he choked or strangled her, causing her to fear for her life. She details that on one occasion (of the two rapes she reports) he held her hands behind her back while he forced himself on her.
“We are talking about a very serious case, as reflected in the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County. Our client looks forward to her day in court before a jury of her peers to obtain justice in this matter,” the woman’s attorney suing Zion said.
The Daily Mail reports that Doe, the victim’s name, and Zion had a relationship from 2018, when the player was at Duke University, until 2023.
In addition, Williamson is accused of threatening not only his life but also that of his family members. And this is not the first time that the Pelicans player has had to face problems because of his personal relationships. A few years ago a porn star accused him of sleeping with other women behind his back, which generated a lot of media noise.
And all this in a season in which he has only played 30 games because of back problems. In fact, the Pelicans have considered trading him, especially since the arrival of Joe Dumars to the New Orleans offices, although in recent days it seems that they would only trade him if an offer came along that they could not refuse.
