Yankees risk major bullpen blow after ALDS collapse: Devin Williams is on the radar of a rising NL powerhouse

The New York Yankees’ turbulent 2025 campaign may not be over just yet – at least not off the field. After being eliminated by the Toronto Blue Jays in the ALDS, the Yankees now face the risk of losing reliever Devin Williams, who is reportedly drawing strong interest from the Miami Marlins, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Williams’ season was a mixed bag. He posted a 4.79 ERA during the regular season but found his rhythm in the playoffs, where he pitched four scoreless appearances and struck out three across two games against Toronto.

His postseason resurgence could make him one of the most intriguing bullpen options available this winter – and Miami appears ready to make a move.

“Given Williams’s stature in the game and likely deflated price tag, the Marlins surely won’t be the only team interested in his services,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Nick Deeds wrote.

Williams is a perfect fit for the Marlins’ rotation

Deeds recalled that Williams is willing “to stick with the Yankees even after a tough year, but virtually every team in baseball tends to be in the market for relief help every winter.”

The Marlins are coming off a 79-83 season, but their strong finish – winning seven of their last 10 games – has sparked optimism in Miami’s front office. Adding an experienced arm like Williams could provide a much-needed boost to their bullpen.

Meanwhile, the Yankees’ front office faces several big questions. Alongside Williams, Cody Bellinger is also entering free agency, and fans are demanding changes after another postseason collapse. New York’s pitching faltered against Toronto, with Williams being one of the few bright spots.

Boone stands firm in his position

Despite fan frustration, general manager Brian Cashman has reaffirmed support for manager Aaron Boone, insisting that the skipper remains “one of the better managers in the game,” even as the Bronx faithful grow restless.

With the offseason just beginning, the Yankees’ challenge is clear: rebuild confidence, repair the roster, and hold on to key players like Williams – before another contender swoops in.
