The New York Yankees reacted through their social networks to the tragic death of Jesus Montero, who was one of their main prospects and who reached the Major Leagues with the Bronx Bombers. Montero passed away in Venezuela on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after battling for two weeks in intensive care after suffering a motorcycle accident.
Jesus Montero signed with the New York Yankees as a catching prospect and played in 2011 in MLB with the Bronx Bombers, who surprisingly traded him the following season to the Seattle Mariners with whom he played until 2015 in the majors. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Jesus Montero was the best prospect he traded.
Deep regret
The New York Yankees were deeply saddened by the passing of Jesus Montero and send their heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones
In particular
I particularly remember Jesus Montero in the practice of the Navegantes del Magallanes team of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) for the 2008-2009 season. Jesus Montero was originally signed by Leones del Caracas, the eternal rivals of the Navegantes, who later took him in the draft called unprotected players.
Jesus Montero only played with Magallanes in the 2009-2010 season and before the 2012-2013 campaign he was traded to Cardenales de Lara. In the Mexican Baseball League, I also remember him with Sultanes de Monterrey and Generales de Durango.
