Yankees preparing for major move at trade deadline

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the New York Yankees find themselves in a delicate position after suffering another defeat against the Chicago Cubs by a score of 4-1, which keeps them relegated to second place in the American League East Division behind the Blue Jays

Despite having a roster with high expectations and stars such as Aaron Judge in his prime, the team has not performed as expected during the first half of the season.

With a record of 53-43 after a loss to the Chicago Cubs, the Yankees have fallen 2.5 games behind the Toronto Blue Jays. This is mainly due to injuries and lack of consistency, and now it seems that the management will move strongly in the market.

Who will the New York Yankees hire?

According to a recent report from Fireside Yankees, a rival executive reportedly told journalist Jon Heyman that he expects the Yankees to “do something big” before the trade deadline, and although no specific details were given, the statement fuels speculation about the organization’s possible moves.

General manager Brian Cashman has already publicly acknowledged the team’s needs: a starter, several relievers and an infielder, with special urgency at third base.

Since the departure of DJ LeMahieu, the position has been without a consolidated starter, and names such as Eugenio Suarez of the Arizona Diamondbacks, could be in the sights as a long-term solution.

Despite owner Hal Steinbrenner‘s statements earlier in the year, in which he questioned the correlation between a high payroll and postseason success, the pressure of results could motivate management to make an aggressive move.

What happened to the New York Yankees?

Key players such as Giancarlo Stanton have acknowledged that the team needs to improve in all areas. The absences of Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt further complicate the situation for the pitching staff, which has suffered a heavy workload.

Max Fried and Carlos Rodon, for example, have already surpassed 120 innings so far this year, which puts their availability for the final stretch at risk.

In defense, Anthony Volpe has dropped off from last season, while on offense, the lack of depth has also taken its toll. The need for consistency, health and additional talent seems obvious.

With the trade deadline set for July 31, the Yankees front office has little time to make decisions that could define the team’s direction not only this season, but also in the near future.
