Yankees must open the vault or watch Bregman slip through their fingers

If the New York Yankees want to weaken their great rivals, the Boston Red Sox, and steal their star player Alex Bregman, they will have to loosen the checkbook to offer him a contract worth $160 million.

This postseason, the Yankees saw their hopes of going for the championship dashed with a sweep executed by the Toronto Blue Jays, who were better than them since June when they overtook them, and in the playoffs, they just finished the job in a way that made it look very easy.

The small differences against the Blue Jays

The New York Yankees have the great Aaron Judge, who is a feared ball hitter, but they lacked more power from his teammates to stand up to their neighbors further north.

While the Toronto Blue Jays proved to be a well-rounded and well-integrated team, in the end, their approach to the postseason paid off, and they are now close to competing for the championship.

Before that came the Yankees’ elimination of their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox

In the American League Division Series, the Yankees had the pleasure of putting aside their hated rivals, the Boston Red Sox, who suffered greatly with injuries and that ended up affecting them considerably.

In this duel, the New York team was seriously looking at the Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman, who has become an object of desire and if they can snatch him from their rival, in addition to weakening them for 2026 in this free agency, would give them many opportunities to return to a World Series

Meanwhile, Bregman has already resigned from his contract with Boston

The Red Sox third baseman signed a contract with Boston shortly before spring training, and did so for three years and $120 million. But in addition, this type of document allows him to rescind it after one or two years with the team and become available again.

And just a week after they were eliminated by the Yankees, Bregman announced that he would opt out of his contract with his current team, the Red Sox. This now puts him in a position to listen to offers, and if he were to leave, it would be a blow to Boston, as he gave them defensive solidity and was effective with the bat in his hands.

Bregman’s possible arrival to the Yankees

One of the advantages of Bregman moving to New York is that the stadium can benefit his hitting. Being right-handed, the statistics show that it favors them.

And to leave, the New Yorkers would have to offer him at least $40 million more than he had with Boston, otherwise it seems unlikely that the move could happen.
