Yankees make strategic move with Carlos Rodon ahead of MLB Playoffs

It was reported on Tuesday, September 23 that the New York Yankees will make a change regarding their pitcher Carlos Rodon. This is a strategy prior to the MLB Playoffs, which the Bronx team is about to access after being second in the American League East with 88 games won.

The New York Yankees’ season has been a rollercoaster, but with Max Fried and Carlos Rodon shining on the mound, the team has two key pieces secured for the playoff rotation. However, the third spot remains an enigma. Aaron Boone’s team is already preparing to be ready for October.

Carlos Rodon will pitch Thursday against White Sox

According to Talkin’ Yanks, the team announced that starting pitcher Carlos Rodon will pitch on Thursday instead of Friday against the Chicago White Sox. While the decision seems subtle, it would ensure that Rodon has five days of rest before a possible start in the second game of the American League wild-card series.

Rodon has been one of New York’s most consistent pitchers this season. The 32-year-old has a 17-9 record and a 3.04 ERA. He picked up the win in his last outing against the Baltimore Orioles, pitching seven innings of one-run ball.

“[The changeup] was probably the best I’ve seen,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told the New York Post. “He used it a lot, but then everything else worked for him. You see the pitching ability, the pitcher that is showing now: the sinker, the four-seam fastball, a little more energy at the end of the game,” Boone explained.

Cam Schlittler and Will Warren battle for third spot in Yankees rotation

Cam Schlittler and Will Warren are the names in the frame to complete the rotation, especially if the Yankees end up in the wild card round. On the one hand, Schlittler, with only 13 career major league starts, showed his potential in the last game of the series against the Baltimore Orioles

In contrast, Will Warren also had a solid outing in Baltimore, allowing one earned run in 5.1 innings, although an error by the pitcher complicated the game. However, his performance against the Boston Red Sox, a potential wild-card rival, has been worrisome, with a 9.42 ERA in 14.1 innings this season.
