Yankees looking to replace Anthony Volpe with this All-Star

After a disappointing 2025 season, Anthony Volpe seems to be losing ground as a figure in the New York Yankees infield. The 24-year-old has struggled both with the glove and with the bat, leading all shortstops in the American League with 19 errors and is hitting just .289, the lowest average of his career.

During the final stretch of the season, with the Yankees fighting for a playoff spot, Volpe’s playing time has decreased. The recent arrival of Jose Caballero has taken away his prominence and it seems that once the schedule is over, the board will make important decisions about his future.

Bo Bichette to the Yankees? The All-Star who could replace Volpe in 2026

According to the MLB panel, consisting of Mark Feinsand, Kegan Matheson and Alyson Footer, the Yankees would be interested in Bo Bichette, the Toronto Blue Jays star, as a replacement for Anthony Volpe from 2026. The 27-year-old will become a free agent for the first time and his current performance makes him one of the most coveted pieces on the market.

I agree that the Tigers are a threat here, but I would also bet on the Yankees. Even if they sign him as a second baseman or third baseman, Bichette is a hitter who fits in any lineup… I don’t rule out the Dodgers or the Yankees as possible destinations… the Anthony Volpe era may be coming to an end at this very moment

Bo Bichette: Stats, achievements and why he would be a great fit for New York

Bichette arrives at the best moment of his career, the two-time All-Star leads MLB with 181 hits and 44 doubles, while his .331 batting average is the highest since he made his major league debut. In addition, he has finished in the top 20 in American League MVP voting on three occasions.

He is currently one of the key pieces in Toronto’s fight for the divisional title, and its magic number to be crowned in the American League East is six. Bichette’s offensive value would make him an immediate upgrade over Volpe, especially on a Yankees team looking for consistency and production in the middle of the lineup.
