Yankees fans don’t believe Aaron Boone’s excuses about Anthony Volpe’s performance

The New York Yankees’ decision to confirm that Anthony Volpe is suffering from a torn labrum in his shoulder generated surprise and criticism from fans. Far from arousing compassion, the news intensified doubts about the shortstop’s performance, whose offensive average of .206/.268/.393 and 19 defensive errors reflect one of his worst seasons in Major League Baseball.

Aaron Boone confirms the injury

Manager Aaron Boone admitted that Volpe has been suffering from the discomfort since May 3, when he was hit against the Rays. However, he assured that the 24-year-old will not be placed on the injured list. This decision further ignited the outrage of fans, who question why the team keeps him in action despite the seriousness of the injury.

Social media was filled with divided comments. Some followers downplayed the news, saying that “everyone plays with injuries in September“, while others shared personal experiences highlighting how limiting a torn labrum can be. There was also skepticism and sarcasm: “So bad as to justify his third year of bad offense? No way!” said one fan.

Criticism of Yankees management

The debate was not limited to Volpe, but extended to the front office. For many, the Yankees mishandled the situation, gambling in the short term rather than protecting the player’s health. There were even theories that the announcement was calculated to pave the way for a change at the shortstop position.

With Jose Caballero and Amed Rosario as alternatives, the pressure is on as the season enters the home stretch. While Volpe continues to be unconvincing, the Yankees must decide whether to keep him on the field or go for a more solid option in October. The fans, increasingly impatient, are demanding immediate results rather than excuses.
