The Yankees could try to return the favor to the Mets for the Juan Soto signing by signing one of their big stars in the MLB offseason.

That’s according to an MLB insider, who expects the Bronx Bombers along with other major league teams to go after a Mets player in free agency this winter.

Which Mets player could the Yankees try to sign in the winter?

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees, along with the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros, are expected to show interest in signing Pete Alonso in the upcoming offseason, assuming he becomes a free agent.

This is not surprising, as the New York Yankees were reportedly interested in signing Pete Alonso last season, so it would not be a surprise if they try to bring Pete Alonso to the Bronx this winter.

What do they say about Pete Alonso’s Mets?

David Stearns, the New York Mets’ president of baseball operations, spoke about Pete Alonso and said: “I’m not going to get into the game of speculating what an offseason will look like when we’re still in the middle of a season. But what I will say is I love Pete. I like him as a Met, as a person, he’s a great guy in the clubhouse, I know what he means to our fan base, he’s performed here, I’m thrilled to have him, and we’ll go from there.”

“He’s having a really good year. And right now, I’m focused on doing everything we can as an organization to continue supporting him and allow him to continue having a really good year and have some of the great performance that he showed he can have last year.“, David Stearns, New York Mets president of baseball operations, on Pete Alonso.
