The New York Yankees could reunite with an old friend who would go a long way to improving their rotation.
Such a meeting between the Bronx Bombers and the pitcher could take place during the upcoming MLB offseason and in the free agent market.
Which old acquaintance can the NY Yankees meet again?
According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the New York Yankees could be a possible destination for San Diego Padres right-handed pitcher Michael King, along with the Toronto Blue Jays.
“Michael King has quietly emerged as one of the best starting pitchers in the Major Leagues since transitioning from the bullpen, posting a 2.92 ERA in his two seasons in the Padres’ rotation’, wrote Mark Feinsand.
Michael King has been on the injured list twice in the 2025 MLB season due to shoulder and knee injuries, respectively, which has limited him to 11 outings. However, he has been productive when healthy, posting a 2.81 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 57 and two-thirds innings.
The New York Yankees traded Michael King to the San Diego Padres in December 2023 as part of the package for Juan Soto and Trent Grisham.
What pitchers will the Yankees have as an option for their rotation in 2026 if they sign Michael King?
- Gerrit Cole
- Max Fried
- Carlos Rodon
- Will Warren
