Yankees could aim to steal Bo Bichette from Blue Jays with massive $230 million offer

Bo Bichette‘s breakout year in Toronto has taken a dramatic twist off the field, as reports suggest the New York Yankees are preparing a contract offer worth more than $230 million to lure the All-Star shortstop from the Blue Jays.

What once looked like a long-term partnership between player and franchise now appears increasingly uncertain as Bichette weighs his next move following Toronto’s deep postseason run.

The 27-year-old shortstop just wrapped up a season in which he hit .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs over 139 games, numbers that reinforce his reputation as one of the American League’s most dependable hitters.

The Blue Jays followed that by extending a one-year qualifying offer worth $22.05 million ahead of his unrestricted free-agency window.

While the gesture keeps an option open for Bichette to remain in Toronto, it also ensures the club receives compensation if he signs elsewhere.

The Yankees’ aggressive bid to reclaim the AL East edge

Bichette is entering the open market for the first time in his career. After debuting in 2019 with the Blue Jays and steadily establishing himself, this is a watershed moment.

His offensive numbers alone, .311 average, .357 on-base, .483 slugging, make him one of the most coveted middle infielders available.

For the Blue Jays, the implications extend beyond one roster spot. Bichette has been the emotional and statistical anchor of Toronto’s lineup for years, forming the core of the franchise alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Toronto already committed long-term to Guerrero Jr. via a 14-year, $500 million deal that begins in 2026.

The front office knows losing him to the Yankees would sting twice, depleting their offense while strengthening a historic rival.

Bichette has expressed loyalty to the organization, saying, “It’s been an incredible journey. I’ve obviously grown up here in so many different ways.”

The shortstop’s late-season PCL injury, suffered on a slide into home plate in September, also complicates negotiations.

He returned in time for the World Series, but the Blue Jays‘ medical staff has acknowledged his recovery remains ongoing.

That becomes leverage for the club in negotiations and a reason for other teams to believe they might poach him.

Sources suggest multiple dollar-minded teams view Bichette as a top target. The scarcity of impact middle infielders on the market this winter raises the stakes even further.

If the Yankees finalize their rumored $230 million offer, it could become one of the defining moments of the offseason and reshape the balance of power in the AL East.

For Bichette, the decision he makes will echo far beyond the contract he signs. If he leaves, the Blue Jays risk losing one half of the core duo that powered their World Series run, even as Guerrero Jr. remains locked in.
