Yankees and Dodgers not only fight for Eugenio Suarez: they also share interest in another star

With the MLB trade deadline fast approaching, the Yankees and Dodgers are looking to shore up third base, and they’re not alone

After strong interest in Eugenio Suarez, both teams are now considering infielder Ryan McMahon, the current star player for the Rockies and the team’s only representative in the 2024 All-Star Game.

Ryan McMahon is an American infielder who plays third base for the Colorado RockiesMcMahon did not have the best start to the season, but has improved in recent weeks, hitting 15 home runs after hitting in consecutive games after the All-Star break.

Despite possessing a modest batting average (.217 on the season and .204 in July), his power and solid defense make him an attractive piece for several teams.

According to information from reporter Mark Feinsand, the Yankees see him as a Plan B if they fail to close a deal for Eugenio Suarez, so there is a strong possibility that he will end up going to the Bronx

In which team will McMahon play in 2025?

One of the aspects that adds value to McMahon is that he is under contract until 2027 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, earning $16 million per season, so his arrival to another team has a certain degree of difficulty. Shaw has performed well recently, hitting two home runs in his last three games, so if he maintains that level, the Cubs could opt to keep him as a starter.

Even so, a platoon between Shaw and McMahon, one playing against right-handed pitchers and the other against left-handed pitchers, is a viable option.

The main problem for the Cubs would be the remaining salary of McMahon, as well as the need for space to continue developing Shaw
