Xavier Worthy speaks on the incident with Travis Kelce. Does he blame him for his injury?

The play that left Xavier Worthy injured on the very first snap of the season for the Kansas City Chiefs was a difficult blow for both the young receiver and the team. His absence in those first three weeks was deeply felt.

It happened on a crossing route, when Worthy collided with his teammate, tight end Travis Kelce. With Kelce’s larger frame and the impact landing on a vulnerable spot, Worthy ended up hurt. Although the injury was serious, his recovery turned out to be almost miraculous. It took him only three weeks to return to action.

That resilience underscores how professional athletes seem built from different material-capable of enduring pain while carrying an unbreakable spirit. His Week 4 comeback proved invaluable, as he helped the Chiefs dominate the Baltimore Ravens in a statement win.

Individually, Worthy’s performance stood out. Having missed the start of the campaign while recovering, he returned with determination and energy. He managed five receptions for 83 yards, a clear sign of the impact the team had been missing in his absence.

Worthy opens up about the collision with his teammate

In an interview with Rich Eisen, the rookie receiver spoke candidly about the play that sidelined him and the role Kelce played in the incident.

Yeah, me and Trav definitely talked about it. I mean, Trav’s my guy, and Trav knows that, like, regardless, it’s football. It happens, so never want to put that on Trav. So, it’s just always, it’s good to have somebody like that in the corner.

Man Trav, he’s the biggest hype man on the team. He’s always just hyping guys up and telling me like, ‘Man, I need you,’ and I’m ‘always the guy that’s gonna step up,’ so I just want to step up for the guys.

His words reflect mutual respect and the strong chemistry inside the Chiefs’ locker room. For Kelce, the situation was also a lesson, one that reminded him that such mistakes cannot be repeated.

A spectacular return for Xavier Worthy

The road back was neither short nor easy for Worthy. Fully healing his shoulder was a non-negotiable step before he could safely return, as rushing it might have aggravated the injury and sidelined him for much longer.

Fortunately for both him and the Chiefs, his comeback was not only successful but impactful. Patrick Mahomes targeted him repeatedly, relying on him as a key option. The five catches for 83 yards were a testament to his value and readiness.

With last weekend’s win, Kansas City improved to a .500 record. Now, with Worthy back on the field, the Chiefs will look to build momentum when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday. The matchup promises fireworks, and with Worthy in uniform, the odds tilt more favorably toward Kansas City.
