Failing to win a three-peat was a turning point for the Missouri franchise, so young talents like Xavier Worthy must put in the extra effort next season to help their team improve. That’s why the wide receiver is expected to take on the new role of primary punt returner.
Worthy is known as one of the fastest players in the NFL after breaking the 40-yard dash record in last year’s league scouting test. Now, those elusive skills could be used to add another layer of skill to the Chiefs’ special teams corps.

Worthy’s potential role on special teams would be crucial, as he would help one of the NFL’s most lethal offenses get into good positions even before stepping onto the field. “Returning a punt. I’ll do whatever the team needs, however it takes,” Worthy said last weekend about this possibility.
On the Chiefs’ latest roster, fellow wide receiver Nikko Remigio has been designated as the team’s punt returner. These decisions are not final. Worthy became the heir apparent to the Chiefs’ number one receiver role after Rashee Rice suffered a season-ending injury last year.
