Xander Bogaerts has a return date with the San Diego Padres

The wait is almost over for San Diego Padres fans. After nearly a month away with a fractured left foot, Xander Bogaerts will return to the diamond on Monday, September 22, when the team begins its series against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

An encouraging recovery

The 32-year-old shortstop has recovered favorably in recent weeks. Manager Mike Shildt explained that Bogaerts accumulated high-intensity work days and responded positively.“What really motivated us was that he had an aggressive day, and the next day he felt good. Then he repeated with another strong session and finished even better. That’s a great sign,” said the strategist.

A key return for the final stretch

With a record of 84-71 and only seven games remaining, San Diego is looking to stay in the fight in the National League West. Bogaerts’ return represents a vital boost both sportingly and emotionally, as the Dominican brings high-level experience.

Shildt highlighted the value of having the infielder back, who has two World Series titles with the Boston Red Sox. “He’s a player we trust a lot. He’s been a mainstay in our lineup, he’s contributed to wins and his winning experience will be key,” said the manager.

What’s next for San Diego

Before Bogaerts’ long-awaited return, the Padres will close out their series against the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Starting Monday, with the shortstop back, the team will try to make a final push to get closer to its playoff aspirations.
