WNBA talks up Angel Reese’s form ahead of next Chicago Sky match

As the Chicago Sky gear up for a nationally televised showdown against the Phoenix Mercury, the WNBA is showing love to one of its most promising young stars.

Angel Reese, who has continued to evolve in her sophomore season, was the focus of a recent WNBA social media post that spotlighted her impressive statistics-and her growing impact across the league.

“11.0 PPG and 11.7 RPG has Angel Reese averaging a double-double and leading the league in boards,” the post read, highlighting her dominant presence on the glass. The league also teased the Sky’s upcoming game, calling it a “major matchup” against the elite Mercury squad airing on ABC at 1 p.m. ET.

The recognition underscores how central Reese has become-not only to Chicago’s game plan but also to the WNBA’s efforts to promote rising stars with real staying power.

Angel Reese among league leaders in rebounds

Reese‘s sophomore campaign has been marked by consistency and toughness, especially in rebounding.

She currently leads the entire league in rebounds per game, an area where her tenacity and physicality continue to shine. With averages of 11.0 points and 11.7 rebounds, Reese is one of just a few players in the WNBA maintaining a double-double this season.

While the Chicago Sky have had their struggles early in the season, currently sitting at 2-6, Reese has remained a force in the frontcourt. Her energy and aggressiveness on both ends of the floor have helped anchor a young and evolving team.

Though her shooting percentages have dipped slightly compared to her rookie year, her rebounding numbers have jumped significantly, showing real growth in her interior presence and basketball IQ.

The WNBA’s post serves as a validation of that progress, signaling league-wide respect for her contributions.

Teammates and league alike rally behind Reese

Beyond her numbers, Reese‘s impact resonates with her teammates, who’ve publicly backed her amid growing attention. Veteran guard Ariel Atkins recently spoke about Reese‘s strength in the face of criticism, stating: “I’m sorry, can I? … This is a 23-year-old kid… she still shows up. … The kid’s crown is heavy. Like, respect that.”

This aligns with the WNBA’s messaging, positioning Reese as both a statistical standout and a culture-shaping figure in the league’s next generation of talent.

Saturday’s clash with the Phoenix Mercury is being billed as a statement game. With stars like Diana Taurasi and Brittney Griner on the other side, the contest offers a major test for Reese and the Sky.

But with the WNBA publicly backing her form and fans watching closely, the moment is ripe for another signature performance from the Chicago forward.

Whether it’s on the boards or in her growing leadership role, Angel Reese is making it clear: her star is still rising-and the WNBA knows it.
