With neither Shedeur nor Shilo around, Deion Sanders Jr. shows how he deals with Coach Prime as he tries to overcome his health issues

Deion Sanders, widely regarded as one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history, is currently navigating serious health challenges while serving as head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes. And although his sons Shedeur and Shilo are embarking on their own professional football journeys, it might seem like “Coach Prime” is left to face life’s hardships alone. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth-his youngest son, Deion Sanders Jr., has been by his side every step of the way, offering unwavering support.

Deion Sanders’ Health Battles

Sanders has been battling blood clots in his legs, a condition that in 2021 led to the partial amputation of two toes. Complicating matters further, he’s also faced circulation issues in his lower limbs, which have required multiple surgical procedures.

More recently, it was revealed that Sanders is dealing with an undisclosed illness-one that caused him to miss the Colorado Buffaloes’ early training sessions this offseason. There was speculation that the former NFL star may be battling diabetes, but neither Sanders nor those close to him have confirmed this publicly.

Despite these setbacks, Coach Prime eventually returned to the team and expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm to be back doing what he loves. He has said repeatedly that working with young athletes gives him joy-not only because they absorb the lessons being taught but also because they follow through with intention and effort.

Deion Sanders Jr.-A Steadfast Presence

With his health more fragile than in previous years, every day has become a meaningful gift for Sanders and his loved ones. Now that his other sons are focusing on their professional playing careers, it’s Deion Sanders Jr. who has taken on the vital role of caretaker and constant companion to his father.

That bond was recently showcased in a heartfelt Instagram post shared by Sanders himself. In the photo, the father and son duo are seen enjoying a quiet, joyful moment together. The caption read:

“#Every little step I take My son @deionsandersjr has been there so we’ve decided to keep on stepping! #CoachPrime coming to a stadium sold out soon. @welloffforever”

The post underscored not only their closeness but also the younger Sanders’ commitment to walking alongside his father-both literally and figuratively-through one of the most trying times of his life.

The Legacy of Coach Prime

Deion Sanders entered the NFL in 1989 with the Atlanta Falcons, where he spent four seasons before joining the San Francisco 49ers for one year. He then moved to the Dallas Cowboys, playing there from 1995 to 2000. Later stints with Washington (now the Commanders) and the Baltimore Ravens followed, before he retired in 2005.

Renowned for his elite ball-hawking skills, Sanders was a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. However, during the hard-hitting ’90s era, he gained a reputation for avoiding contact when possible-earning both criticism and admiration for his uniquely strategic style of play.
