With Caitlin Clark sidelined by injury, Angel Reese’s WNBA All-Star status remains uncertain

Chicago Sky star Angel Reese continues to cement her status as one of the WNBA’s most impactful rising talents. In her second season, Reese is posting career-best numbers: 14.0 points per game, 3.8 assists, and an impressive 12.6 rebounds on average-leading the league in that category. Her dominance in the paint and relentless energy have been key to the Sky’s strong performance in the 2025 season.

Thanks to her standout play, Reese was selected for her second consecutive All-Star appearance, as part of the team led by Napheesa Collier. The highly anticipated event is set to take place this Saturday, July 19, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, home of the Indiana Fever.

Angel Reese injury could keep her out of All-Star Game

Reese sat out the Sky’s latest matchup against the Atlanta Dream due to a leg injury, the cause of which has not been disclosed. This raised concerns among fans wondering if she’ll be ready for this weekend’s event.

Chicago Sky head coach Tyler Marsh tried to ease speculation before Wednesday’s game. He explained to the media that Reese’s absence was precautionary: “Angel is being more cautious,” Marsh told reporter Karli Bell.

His comments suggest it may not be a serious injury, but there has been no official confirmation regarding her All-Star participation.

Caitlin Clark, Satou Sabally, and Rhyne Howard ruled out

Reese isn’t the only player whose availability is in doubt. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark has already been ruled out due to injury-a major blow for local fans, as the game is being hosted in her team’s city.

In addition to Clark, it has also been confirmed that Satou Sabally (Phoenix Mercury) and Rhyne Howard (Atlanta Dream) will miss the event for medical reasons. These withdrawals have reshaped expectations for the event and opened doors for other emerging players.

Anticipation builds for 2025 WNBA All-Star Game

Despite the notable absences, the 2025 All-Star edition still promises a showcase full of talent and excitement. The game tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET and will feature special matchups between Team Stewart and Team Collier-a format that has been well received by fans in recent years.

Angel Reese’s potential absence would certainly diminish the star power of the game, but her influence on the league continues to grow. While her status remains uncertain, the desire to see her in action is strong-from both the public and the WNBA itself.
